Hunter Teets, MA, LPC
Hunter Teets LPC is certified in a style of therapy called Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). This style of therapy comes from an understanding that, just like our bodies heal from injury under the right conditions, our psyche heals under the right conditions as well. These right conditions are a felt sense of safety and connection with your therapist so that what is difficult and unresolved in your life can be re experienced in a new way that leads to healing and resolution of painful experiences.
Hunter’s education is from Denver Seminary and the Denver Family Institute (DFI). Denver Seminary allowed him to incorporate aspects of spirituality into counseling in a meaningful way. Hunter enjoys assisting people from all spiritual traditions. Some of his work has included helping people heal and reclaim their spirituality following coercive or traumatic spiritual experiences. He was drawn to the DFI for its reputation of providing the best clinical training in Colorado. He was deeply inspired by his experience there and went on to graduate with honors for clinical excellence. His experience of supervision and training at the DFI left a longing to support others therapists in clinical excellence.
At this time in his career he participates in ongoing research with the AEDP institute in their 16 session time limited model. This supports Hunter in his ongoing clinical growth so that he can empower patients to make deep, real, and lasting changes in their lives in a short term therapy experience.
Recently, Hunter merged his business with Charlottesville Integrated Psychiatry because of an alignment of values with the Medical Director of that practice, Dr. Benjamin Stephens. It become clear to both Ben and Hunter that they could make a bigger impact for people by working together.
One of Charlottesville Integrated Psychiatry’s central values is great patient care. In service of great care Medical Director Dr. Benjamin Stephens and Clinical Director Hunter Teets are working together to match effective medication with high quality counseling. Research clearly shows the best outcomes happen when people combine medication and counseling. Currently, there are often long waitlists to see counselors and it can be difficult to find providers who take insurance. For this reason Charlottesville Integrated Psychiatry is a training practice and works with both Residents in Counseling and Counseling Interns to support them in providing highly effective therapy from the get go. Hunter has a deep commitment to growing in his own clinical work and mentoring younger therapists to be whole hearted effective healers from the start of their career.
If you have a sense that you might like to work with Hunter, please don’t hesitate to contact him to arrange an initial phone conversation to assess the potential of working together.
