Jennifer Grover, Master’s Student
Jennifer is an intern at Full Life and a pre-licensed Master’s student in William & Mary’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. This is her second career, following years spent teaching language and literature at the Stax Record Academy’s charter high school in Memphis, Tennessee and, later, preschoolers in Washington, D.C. and Charlottesville, Va. Her experiences as an educator impressed upon her the power of the therapeutic relationship to create an environment for growing and healing, recognizing resilience, and building skills that we carry forward on our journeys. Emerging knowledge of mindfulness and neurobiology inform Jennifer’s emotion-focused style of counseling. She approaches clients not as diagnoses but as people experiencing disconnection from others and self, who have within them the desire and capability for change. She believes that healing occurs within the safety of a warm therapeutic relationship, in which we make space for compassionately exploring our emotions and meaning-making.
The following books have particularly informed Jennifer’s therapeutic approach:
It’s Not Always Depression by Hilary Jacobs Hendel
Your Resonant Self by Sarah Peyton
The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk
The Gift of Therapy by Irvin Yalom
Co-Creating Change by Jon Frederickson
Assorted works by Thich Nhat Hanh
