Much of the first session will focus on a broader overview of who you are and what brings you to treatment. Your counselor may ask questions about your presenting concerns, relationships, daily habits, moods, substance use, preferences, and goals. The first session is also a chance for you and your counselor to connect and get to know each other!

Outside of special circumstances, like child abuse or active safety concerns as outlined in our Code of Ethics, your counselor may not share anything you disclose in session without your written permission. This allows you the freedom talk through and resolve topics that bring up fear and shame with someone skilled to handle this who absolutely will not share this information.

Ending therapy is a very individualized process and one that can be part of the conversation from the beginning. Many people find they’re ready to move on from therapy when they’re having success implementing new strategies, feel more at peace with stressors or trauma, or find that there isn’t much more to talk about week-to-week! However, we always encourage clients to return to treatment if new issues arise or they feel they need an emotional checkup. The journey into knowing yourself is a lifelong process.

Telehealth encompasses mental healthcare services delivered online. Our counselors can provide online video sessions through a secure platform to protect your confidentiality. Some people enjoy the flexibility and ease of access of telehealth, while others prefer the in-person connection of coming to the office. What’s best for you can depend on your preference and what you’re coming to treatment to work on.

We work hard to provide the best possible services and reviewing tape of our work is one of the best supports in providing excellent therapy services. Recordings are kept on a password protected computer until they can be reviewed. Recordings are deleted after being reviewed. These are not part of the medical record and are only used for therapist training. To see more about our policy on video taping here.
